Default I want to buy Xbox for Xmas, but will I get hardware problems?

I heard that the Xbox has some sort of problem and that it malfunctions... I don't want to buy a new system only to have it break on its own.

What problems can occur and can they be easily fixed?

every xbox is different. You only hear the negative and never the positive. There should be a warranty on the system when you buy it, so just save you receipt. Depending on where you get it from, you could possibly just take it back to the store where you got it from and exchange. What i'm trying to say it take a chance. You're paying a premium price for a premium product, and if something happens, you should have a way to either exchange or get your money back, even if that means extended warranty.

We have two 360's and have not had either of them malfunction. The main issue right now is RRoD or Red Ring of Death. It is more or less caused by the system overheating and then malfunctioning.

MS says that they are now shipping the new processors that were promised to run cooler, and hopefully end the RRoD issues people are concerned with. MS also extended the warranty period on 360's and has done a very good job of fixing the issues by shipping replacement units quick to people in need.

All in all I don't think you should be concerned. The minority sound like they speak for us all with the 360 issues, but the truth is that they are not all broken. Ours are used daily without an issue - so I would say dive on in and get one.

Well, you won't have any of those hardware failures IF you buy the newer Premium consoles that come built-in with an HDMI port on the back. If you don't, then the problems may be the red ring of death, freezing, and overheating. DON'T buy the Intercooler if you don't buy the new Premium consoles. I heard from alot of people about the coolers melting and not working.
