Will playing old XBox games hurt an XBox 360?

My roommate says that playing original XBox games on the XBox 360 will shorten its life span. I told him he's nut's and is wrong but what have you heard? I know that there are certain XBox games that aren't compatible with the 360 but that's all I've heard.
