Should I get my boyfriend an Xbox 360 for Christmas or some system?

I know nothing about game systems, and my boyfriend isn't a big gamer. He bought an Xbox back in May and has built up a decent collection of games. However he feels behind because all of his friends have PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii.
So for Christmas I want to get him a new system, and I want to start looking early so I can hopefully get a decent deal.
My delimma is as far as I know, between the three systems, Xbox360, PS3, and Wii, the Xbox is the oldest model, it makes me nervous I'll buy him one then for Xmas 2009 there will be an Xbox1000 (or whatever). So that made me take another look at the Wii, but the game selection doesn't seem to be as much his style. PS3 hes never mentioned but maybe that would be a decent comprimise (model will be replaced later rather then sooner, and game selection is maybe better then Wii?)
I'm out of my league here, can I get some opinions from gamers?
He likes racing games (cars, snowmobiles, atvs) hes also into army games (without warning is the only title I remember), and sometimes boxing/fighting games.

I've been saving for ages so price isn't going to be an issue.

when the new xbox comes out the new playstation is soon to follow. But Id be him a xbox 360 it will have all the games he likes plus everyone owns one so he can swap games with his friends.

i would go with the xbox 360. the xbox has a solid lineup of games, and the price for it also just went down. the wii doesnt sound to be quite what he would be looking for from your descriptions on the types of games he likes. the ps3 is a good system too, but the xbox just has a better selection. along with that, you can also get xbox live and play the games online with other people

give him suttle hints about games or about each console pic out what he likes more and get it 360 is a good bet and technology often changes in a year theres no real escape from your system being redundant next year at xmas

according to your description an X-Box 360 is perfect for him although it does't have a lot of good games but a lot of his style. Don't worry about a new version of xbox because that's not gonna happen now as far as I know. A PS3 is also a good choice. Don't buy Wii because it does not have his style although i personally prefer it than the other 2.
So, a Xbox is a good choice but ps3 a better one!
